Root Psychosis
Eating Zyros roots is a popular way to get high in Syloson, but it's essential that you boil them for at least an hour beforehand. Otherwise, the chemicals that cause the high are left much, much more potent, and can cause something a little longer-lasting.
Symptoms
Those afflicted tend to experience a strong sense of confusion and inability to process language. All non-speech sounds may blend into one, a sound that has been described as close to a strong wind. Visually, while there are no hallucinations, light levels might appear to bounce all over the place, and temporary face-blindness is common. Their pupils dilate and remain so until the drug is completely out of their system. Muscle function can be impaired in severe cases, with the limbs not often doing what the brain tells them to.
Treatment
The only way to treat Root Psychosis is to wait for the drug to completely leave the system, which can take 2-5 days. The victim will usually need to be hospitalized, as the condition renders them largely unable to function on their own.
Prognosis
While the condition is not deadly in itself, there have been cases of victims accidentally killing themselves while under the influence.
Sequela
Those who develop the condition have a much lower tolerance to boiled Zyros roots in the future, and it's not recommended to ever eat them again due to the danger of developing it again.
History
The root itself first began to be used for recreational purposes around 811. It can be assumed that the condition first began to manifest sometime before then as ancient people sought to figure out the best way to consume it.
Cultural Reception
Those who develop Root Psychosis are the subject of mockery, being referred to as "root heads."
