Divine Rite
It is said that some people are destined for to be great, while others are destined to blend in. In the Mythos of Syken, back when the Gods were alive, some of the heroes and heroines of the world were blessed with marks that allowed them to harness the power of the Gods.
Summary
The purpose of the Divine Rite in the mythos of Syken is rooted within the aspect of hope of a better future and making something of one self. A hope that in this mundane, bland and dangerous world, that some random farmer could rise to the occasion and become a mighty Paladin given a godly rite.
Those that believe in the Rite believe that it manifests in the backside of one's palms. It manifests in time of high tension, whether it be physical tension, emotional tension or when one's on their last door. The time when they sit and pray that everything will be okay. At that moment, the field will go white and the mark will manifest on the back of their palm.
The mark will usually match the icon of whatever heard their call and cry. But who will answer your call if the gods are dead?
Historical Basis
Some believe that the Divine Rite is rooted in reality, that at some point heroes were branded with the symbology of a god on back side of their palm. Others, however claim that the Gods have been dead for thousands of years and that this is only created to stimulate a modicum of hope in a hopeless world. This dichotomy about the God's existence has always been an idea and a thought. It has and will persist even if the Gods do miraculously make a revival to Syken.
What the Gods did, and for a lack of better words didn't do has caused the deaths of millions and has led to people having a general distaste towards religion and Godly figures.
Spread
The myth of the Divine Rite is spread all throughout Syken. Anyone that believes in the myth believes that anyone despite their upbringing has the chance to awaken their mark. A goblin from the Saradidian Union hiding from an Edrian Caravan has just as much chance of awakening a Divine Rite than a Tabaxi merchant from Dazilstan.
In Art
Murals of heroes are often shown to have some small semblance of a Divine Rite on their palm. For example, within the Dulkani city of Lulbeck, the mural of the Founder at the city gate has a Divine Rite of a long forgotten Divine figure.
