Personal history
Joshua came from an affluent family who owned boats, multiple properties, had maids and most importantly were shareholders. Joshua grew up to have an amazing life, he had a large group of friends, got away with a lot of shenanigans, had plenty of vacations, was a high school Lacrosse star and had a bright future. Nothing ever really seemed to go wrong for him.
While taking a boat to go see his girlfriend at a secret spot, he was texting her and didn't notice some of the rocks sticking out of the water. He crashed his boat and fell unconscious from hitting his head. He woke up floating in the air, he'd been rescued and they were reviving him when he started floating. When he floated back down they tested him and he was positive for the Nola Gene. Even though the drink was discontinued years ago after the accident, his family were shareholders in Nola Cola at the time. Nola Cola had a tradition of sending new flavors to its shareholders, his father drank some which introduced the gene into their family.
The Jacobs saw themselves as pillars of the community, and representatives for all of Maine. So when Jacob got his powers, they assured him that there was no greater opportunity, no public service more fitting than to become the hero of Maine.

Intellectual Characteristics
- Naivete - Joshua grew up in all american bubble. So he thinks of things in black and white and leaves nuance to higher ups. While he himself is a good and honest person, his lack of experience can unfortunately lead him to take things at face value, that others might protest to.
