Little Liberty

Asia was a happy go-lucky bright eyed ball of energy like any other girl at her age. She spent most of her time on social media and playing games and doing whatever the newest dance is. The only thing different from other girls was the immense joy and sadness she had for her missing cousin. Her cousin was one of the funniest, happiest people she had ever met in her life. He made everyone laugh when he came around, which is why she felt so empty during the holidays. Her cousin was in the service, and had been officially missing in action for over a year. Everyone in their family assumed him dead, but she wouldn't entertain that thought.

  So to keep her mind of things, her parents would take her to a military museum. Filled with artifacts from old wars and the inspiring or heartbreaking stories that came with them. One of those things was an old French torch, carried by a fierce french fighter who was cut down in America. While touring the museum it was attacked by a highly armed and well trained group of militants. People were fleeing and artifact cases were being shattered as pieces of history were tossed around and stomped on. A bullet broke through the torches case, and rolled towards Asia. She grabbed it without reason, it made her feel better to hold it. But the torch ignited in her hands, seemingly stopping time to take Asia into another realm. Where the spirit of resistance inducted her as the next Torchbearer. After being transported back to the museum, she used her new power to take out the gunmen.

  As Torchbearer, her role was to use her powers to resist in just causes. As using her powers unjustly would give her the same fate as the frenchman before her. It also gave her hints that if anyone had the power to find her cousin, it'd be her. But she couldn't do it alone, she found her way into the Department of Defense and demonstrated her powers. Convincing them she could find all the lost soldiers out in the world and bring them back safely, and that she held the gift to foresee attack against the states. That was a lie, but it was enough to get her resources she needed to find her cousin. She became more like an american mascot, but it didn't stop her from fighting. Her inclusion as an official member of the american military taken hits from all corners of the world for hypocrisy. As america has maintained that child soldiers are immoral, and yet they have a super powered one.
