Personal history
Jin's family ran a morgue as a kid, and he was expected to continue the family business so he learned early. Jin just happened to be naturally gifted at magic as well. But not wanting to scare anyone, he kept it a secret. He would often practice his magic on the corpses when no one was around. He'd look in libraries to find any mention of necromancy, but never found anything reliable. But he was determined to find anything to help him get better.
He became hyper focused on magic, he saw wonders inside of his spells that he didn't find anywhere else in life. The business, even his family lost all meaning to him. Magic became his sole goal, and he needed to be better at it, whatever the cost. So he went outside of magic, into the realm of the supernatural.
He made a deal with a demon, increasing his powers in ways he never felt before. But instead of his soul, he had his freedom. The demon who gave him his power, saw the potential damage he could cause if he roamed freely, and the amount of souls he'd send down would be worth his weight in gold. He was right, Jin became drunk on power and eventually became Gravefire.
