Badrick was a good kid really. Rambunctious, hard headed & nosy? Yes, but a good kid nonetheless. His family were poor farmers in Jamaica, but thanks to the amounts of fruits that grow there naturally, they never went hungry. Badrick always had some cockamamy scheme about finding pirate treasure somewhere on the Island; which his parents let him indulge. He was just trying to help in his own childlike way. They didn't think he'd ever get into trouble for it.

On another of his treasure hunts, he went digging into a spot a in the jungle that he knew was farther than he was allowed. He found a green glowing skull, with weird letters on it. He finally found treasure, and ran to tell his parents but something told him he shouldn't. It was a feeling that he couldn't shake and so he listened to it. Over the next week the feeling got stronger, and he became nervous until he heard the skull speak. It whispered how it could help him and his family have a better life if he wanted; and it would find all the treasure he could ever dream of. But he had to ask the skull to do it, even with the nauseating feeling he got from the skull he figured it would be a good idea. He asked the skull precisely how he was told to ask "Tho I wail, the beach mans tale, I ask forever more. Ring the sand sung bells of sunken sails, and open the Emerald Maw." 

The skull then grew brighter then ever, the mouth of the skull opened and it split in half like a mask. Badrick put the mask on and great green light tore into the sky. When it stopped Badrick had the body of a grown man. His head to his shoulders became a translucent green. His voice was definitely not his, and it seemed Badrick had no control over this form. It went straight to the nearest computer it could find and sucked the information right out of it. Then it flew off, and now every blue moon Badrick's parents get a phone call. From a scared muffled voice of a little boy, saying I don't have much time, I love you & I'm sorry.

The Emerald Intellect is a being from a past age. In a past life he was the pirate known as Odowun the Cleverbeard, hellbent on knowledge and power. He dabbled in magic to sustain himself as the green skull, stealing the body of whoever said the words. Hijacking Badrick's body for his own ends, only allowing brief stints of control for things like calls to home, as a sort of thank you.
