Bookery Grams
The Bookery Grams were created in 1753 as private library by Matthew Donaldson. They were first known as the Nookery Grams, it was the biggest library that existed in America at the time. It was invite only and the criteria for membership was kept secret. It would not be until years later that some of the men who originally worked on the building admitted there to being multiple hidden rooms and walkways hidden throughout the building. They were dismissed as crazy and any claims were refuted as there was never any proof they worked on the building.
Over time more of the Grams were built across America, and select locations across the world. All just as massive as the first one, the owners of the Grams changed hands in the 1850s. With all members being refused access due to reconstruction, when they reopened they were welcome to all people. Strange things began happening at the grams after that, multiple people reported missing, strange chanting and markings appearing, people saying or remembering things that they can't explain. These things were happening at all of the Grams locations, and so every country wrested control from the owners citing it as a danger to the public. They've mostly been turned into public housing for the lower income communities.
They are still many reports of strange sounds and things happening at the Grams. But the reports are much less frequent, so they're chalked up to paranoia. They're even lists online designating which of the Grams are considered the scariest, most dangerous, creepy or safe for people to visit. The people who live at the grams have learned to live with the unusual history of their buildings.
