Ruby's Fussy About Cat Food
A/n: So. Latte is a dragon. Despite the fact that Ruby Gray insists on calling her a cat, she is a dragon. Since she was genetically designed by Ruby, it makes sense that she would have a few quibbles about how Latte (and all the subsequent variations of her kind) are fed. Because of course you can't have a genetically engineered dragon without giving it specifically engineered food.
I know for a fact that Latte isn't really fussy about what she eats, so this is all a Ruby thing. I can't really argue with it too much, though, since it keeps Latte from developing a taste for human meat.
There are a lot of things that go into making the food, so by the time it comes out and looks like a heap of kibble. Ruby insists that one of the most important parts is the ritual she's created around growing the rosemary that she puts into it.
It's not normal rosemary. It might not even technically be anything related to rosemary, but it does at least look and smell like rosemary, except that it grows to full maturity in the space of a week. When this happens, Ruby has Latte come and sniff it for a while. If she doesn't try to burn it to a crisp, Ruby takes that as meaning it's a good batch and promptly harvests it. Then she burns it herself.
Seriously. She takes a blow torch and specifically turns it into a little rosemary scented pile of ash that she then mixes into the base of the kibble.
The one time she didn't do this, the rosemary caught itself on fire after a week of being overgrown.
