Metri Hood
Reveka Aloumetri, Princess of Vielene might have popularized it, but the truth is that the Metri hood (or just metri) has been a part of Veleen culture for generations longer than that. So even if it does stylistically inform a lot of superhero costuming in the modern era, its roots go back farther than most people give it credit.
A metri is generally characterized as a close fitting cowl-type hood, that overshadows the forehead and wraps around the neck, settling partway over the collarbone. It is embroidered with elaborate symbols in the same color as the hood itself, which makes them difficult to see except under very specific lighting. Historically it was worn by men and women alike, although with slightly different styling.
Nowadays it is usually worn with a mask, and the intent is to conceal one's identity. It's a staple of the Enhanced community, on the heroic and villainous sides of the aisle.
The key to the metri is that it's meant to be a more subtly styled garment. Solid colors only, and while the symbols can be very elaborate, they have to match the hood color so it's not immediately noticeable. Modern styling and shaping makes better use of the fabric to work with people with thicker hair. With the right compression fabric, the identity concealment works even better.
The metri is a very easy thing to add to a super costume, since it's designed to fit over the top usually.
It's still used by other people, of course. Just without the mask. It's still popular for Veleen teenagers to use, as a kind of heritage throwback.
