HOTEB
HOTEB, or Humans Operating Technological Enhancement Basics, is a controversial organization because rather than work with Enhanced or acknowledge that this is an attempt to catch up with some people who have some admittedly pretty powerful abilities that give them an extreme advantage, they're trying to use technology to claim that they're better than everyone.
Yes, everyone. Not even just people with powers, that they're also better than other humans because someone gave them some fancy tech. On average, most of what they've come out with is stolen in some way or another.
I fully support technological developments, because they tend to help us all. Not every power is appropriate for every situation, and some people have some pretty serious weaknesses that counteract their gifts. I also think that humans can stand up for themselves and that they should and having the tech to let them stand toe to toe with dangerous supervillains is a good step. Mostly because it also gives them the chance to stand up to the powerful superheroes who go that one step too far.
HOTEB is pretty awful, though. I have no idea how they even recruit, they're so exclusionary and exclusive and such.
A/n: They use two methods: social media (not something Ruby uses on a regular basis), and word of mouth invitations (not something Ruby would seek out).
They have a rigid hierarchy that applies to the members and to the tech that they're allotted. Obviously, the higher the tier, the better the stuff you'll have access to. Interestingly, the higher tiers have to do more chores, so to speak. To reach certain ranks, you're expected to contribute scientifically or monetarily or physically in a way that they don't care about for the lowest ranks. Those are mostly just to build up numbers, make the organization look more popular than it really is.
