Deruvasi
The Deruvasi are engineering geniuses. None of their many detractors will ever deny that. The problem comes with their emphasis on reusing literal garbage.
With their three arms, they're very well equipped to deal with emergency fixes and complex projects. As a people, they also tend to have very good hand dexterity and excellent eyesight.
Their culture is entirely constructed around principles of recycling. Some of the more dedicated have been known to sob loudly at the idea of using a brand new component, even if the rest of the machine they're making is pieced together from seven different things, one of which is at least fifty years old.
In some cases, there's a religious element to it. The Deruvasi strive to make the most of what they've been given, viewing everything that they use as coming from a divine creator. As such it is their
There are not a lot of them on Earth, in large part due to how they stand out with the third arm and general alien demeanor, but those that do live here are content to be weird stories in junkyards. They find the garbage heaps fascinating.
Their antibiotics are borrowed from a number of different galactic societies, but used to great effect. It's less essential on their home planet because they are meticulous about sorting waste disposal into "biohazard" versus "I can use this." Notably there are some for whom this must be subdivided further. In any case, when they settle on other planets they make use of several antibacterial substances to sterilize the items they're using. Many of them are very careful to tailor their concoction to whatever it is they're attempting to salvage, to avoid corroding the substance.
The average Deruvasi is considered to be very difficult to work with, since their single-minded approach to renewing and reusing items can make it hard for them to consider most other solutions.
