Conduit Overdrive

One of the reasons that Camperian expansionism was so frightening was the idea of the Conduit, a once-in-a-generation powerhouse capable of manipulating all the different types of energy with virtually none of the limitations or caps that the average Camperian possesses. Still vulnerable to telepathy, thank goodness, but still one of the most frightening things that the galaxy has to offer.
To make things even freakier, there's a specific celestial phenomenon that leads to things being much worse. It's mostly just called Overdrive.
Where the average Camperian goes through one major transformation in their life, to unlock their adult energy potential, more powerful ones can go through as many as three as their abilities grow. The Conduit goes through...a lot. Every time they're exposed to a new source of power, they go through the transformation as their body learns to adapt to something different. Also worth noting that the Camperian classifications of "energy" are different than what your average physicist would use.
In select circumstances, this goes to an extreme level. If the Conduit is exposed to a coronal mass emission from a star, even if it's a kind of energy they've been exposed to before, they go through an unusual transformation. It goes beyond the normal internal adjustments from a typical transition and into an actual physical change.
While these changes are temporary, they are rather spectacular. The Conduit typically ends up glowing, and usually with extra limbs. Sometimes this means wings, sometimes it means a lot of bonus fingers. There's even been ones noted to gain a carapace. In one particularly horrifying instance, they developed a skull that was resistant to telepathy.
Incidentally, that was the instance that led to the ultimate defeat of the Camperians because if they could find a way to overcome their primary weakness, no one wanted to deal with that, so the push against them was brutal.
