Summer Camp 2025
Alright, let's see if I can reach at least Copper level!
Update: Copper achieved!
- 12/16 Silver
- 12/24 Gold
- 12/32 Diamond
I will likely be jumping between this world and Arcadia, but will place the Summer Camp article on this one as the main focus.
WEEK ONE ASSIGNMENT ONE: NOURISHMENT
Think about ways the theme of Nourishment affects your world. Do people generally have what they need? What happens when they don’t?
Arcadia: While much of the world has been taken back by nature, the corrupting pollutants left over from the world city limits some areas of what could be arable land. Utilization of old parks, green areas, and defunct hydroponics zones has been mostly successful. Nurturing the living aether of the area has been a necessary tactic within the Overcity. Within the Undercity alternative methods have been needed where hydroponics has not been available or overrun by dangerous fauna and flora. Trade routes are important.
Sunev: While the effects of the Scaled Tyrant's war are still felt to this day, trade has improved and land has been retaken. While vast tracts of dangerous wilderness still abounds and tensions run high along borders where arable land is often found
WEEK ONE ASSIGNMENT TWO: PLEDGE
Definitely aiming for Copper.
WEEK ONE ASSIGNMENT THREE: FIX WHAT'S THERE
If you found any outdated articles in your world, update the most important ones now! Do the same with your worldbuilding meta.
Nothing to fix currently, transferring new stuff there.
WEEK TWO ASSIGNMENT ONE: REVIEW!
Look at the cultures and areas you’ll focus on for Summer Camp, and think about how their past shaped them.
Arcadia: The past heavily influences the entirety of the world from the Burning of the old world to living in the remains of that world. Plenty to work with there.
Sunev: Some focus on the aftermath of the Tyrant's War and the surviving dragon species.
WEEK TWO ASSIGNMENT TWO: LANDING PAGES
Go to your world’s homepage and imagine you’re a new reader discovering the setting for the first time. What should you change to make the experience more engaging?
Arcadia: Still dabbling with this, but it's not priority.
Sunev: Jumped around between some different default stylings. Sad that the Notebok styling has the table of contents side bar as completely black? I'm not knowledgeable enough with CSS to fix that, so Summer Camp profile it is! Also wrote a little blurb on the world there to flesh out some basic themes.
WEEK TWO ASSIGNMENT THREE: LOOKING BACK
Find your earliest worldbuilding project. What mistakes did you make that you want to avoid? What good ideas from those early days can you integrate into your current project? Remember to take a moment to be proud of how far you've come!
Oh, so many mistakes, but a lot of options there. These are mostly fresh ones I'm pulling together for both, however, so.. definitely less focus on the wider world and trying to focus more on a specific region'/section of the world. Try to limit myself.
WEEK THREE ASSIGNMENT ONE: SHAKE IT UP!
What transformations and adaptations have the people in your world gone through? What changes are going on right now… and who is trying to stop them?
Arcadia: There's likely still some forces that are working against cleaning the world in favour of exploiting the environment for gain. Less interest in being thoughtful with old magic and technology, but seeing it as a source of profit or power.
Sunev: The one main antagonist I'm working with, I think, will be a group of former Tyrant devotees who fled to the far north and have done what they could to tame wyverns (a notoriously untamable species).
WEEK THREE ASSIGNMENT TWO: INSPO SOURCES!
Choose a new genre, style, or author, and take a look at their art! Write what you learned from them and what inspired you.
Arcadia: A good excuse to watch some anime. I also picked up the 5e book of Obojima since it aligns nicely with that kind of aesthetic. Pretty cool stuff.
Sunev: Been working at taking in some dragon books. Next up is Ascendant by Michael R. Miller.
WEEK THREE ASSIGNMENT THREE: READ READ READ!
Read a couple of articles from the community, give them a like (and why not a sticker!), and write about what inspired you.
Done!
WEEK FOUR ASSIGNMENT ONE: THE FUTURE
Think about current events that will impact the future. Who is working to create a specific kind of future?
Arcadia: Company interests certainly want a future that restores the golden age before the Burn, while current Wildguard and adventurers want to have a more sustainable way of life.
Sunev: The DRC is very much about keeping the views on dragons in a more positive light. A lot of work is being put toward that.
WEEK FOUR ASSIGNMENT TWO: BE READY
Make sure everything’s ready—from your writing space to your writing schedule—before Summer Camp begins!
Writing up quick blurbs on stuff to flesh out later here and there! Coming along nice. Need to figure out some time off in July perhaps to focus on writing.
WEEK FOUR ASSIGNMENT THREE: WHO'S HELPING
Who or what will help you achieve your goal? What will your sharing strategy be during Summer Camp?
Going to share my stuff with friends on Discord to get their feedback, especially the players who likely will be in my future campaign!
Looking good! I feel you on the CSS front.
Yeah, I'm honestly surprised I can't find anything about the side bar on the subreddit. I figure someone must've found a workaround to share, but alas.
