Petunia the Kettle Dragonet
Petunia (she/her) is a red-kettle dragonet under the care of wandering chef Tak Seo-Hyun.
Petunia was acquired by Seo-Hyun when they were 12 years old. Seo-Hyun, who had been learning to help their grandmother with cooking a family meal for the first time, discovered the kettle dragonet within their cookpot. They tried to hide the existence of the kettle dragonet and lure it away from the pot before it was discovered by their grandmother, but the dragonet would not budge from lounging within the boiling soup broth.
Seo-Hyun convinced their grandmother that they would take over the entirety of the preparation of the soup and spent the remainder of the time cooking trying to both hide the dragonet and convince it to leave to no avail. Eventually, once the soup was fully ready, the dragonet slipped out just as the rest of the family were arriving for dinner.
Over the next week, Seo-Hyun would discover the kettle dragonet lurking about the house. Every time that the youth helped with preparing a meal the dragonet would appear and slink into the cookpot.
It was three months that they went about their odd ritual while cooking that the dragonet was eventually discovered. By that time it had taken to sleeping within Seo-Hyun's room. Their sister had entered to wake them up and discovered the serpentine creature curled over her sibling's neck. After some screaming, explaining, and quite a lot of begging the family permitted Seo-Hyun to keep the little pest. Their grandmother held out the most before demanding that the creature be named and so Petunia was chosen though they claim they can no longer remember the reason why exactly.
Over the years as Seo-Hyun grew in popularity once they had left home and began to ply their trade, they were never seen without the dragonet. So entwined were the pair that Petunia developed something of her own following. While kettle dragonets were often considered pests in many areas of the world, Petunia was seen as an eccentric quirk of the wandering chef. Many children who heard of the pair would often gather when Seo-Hyun meandered through their town or village to catch a glimpse of them as they cooked or merely shopped for food.
Petunia has undoubtedly helped to reduce the stigma against kettle dragonets being seen as pests and Seo-Hyun has found that they are welcome to free room and board at any Aeyrie of the Dragon Rider Conclave.
