Moran beef

Moran beef is taken from the Moran Auroch, a small, black breed of cattle in the Moray Highlands. A common meat that can be found on the dining tables among the continent and islands of the Three Kingdoms.

Moran beef tends to have appealing marbling and has lead to an increase of demand from not just the lands of the Three Kingdoms, but as far away as Dione, Favari, and Kallistos. Many of the auroch cattle had been exported to neighbouring continents and limited cattle herds have been adopted by other kingdoms and nations.

History

Moran Aurochs were a species discovered during the initial immigration of settlers to the Northern Shield. It is uncertain where or when the species arrived on the continent. Some historians believed that a land bridge of ice once existed during a previous ice age which allowed the initial species to spread. More religious historians merely attribute the distribution of species to the Divine.

The closest discernable relatives of the Moran seem to be the brown aurochs of Agrona.

Initial settlers within the Three Kingdoms had found the wild aurochs and domesticated them. It has drawn ire from many of the predators of the mountainous continent. A particular note of are the giant, insectoid ankhrav who had once dined upon them primarily. Having been fought back by the settlers, the ankhrav are still been drawn toward herding fields near towns. Regular patrols of regular and volunteer militia are made to keep them back.

The domestication is believed to have saved the species from extinction from the local predatory species. Population numbers have swelled despite being consistently cultivated for meat.
