Grand Opera House
The Grand Opera House is a Great Work being constructed in Centerpoint, the Capitol of the Empire of Ahrodia.
Overview
Considered one of the many Great Works of the current Emperor of Ahrodia, the Grand Opera House is the most ambitious building of the arts to be constructed. When it is finished it is expected to be able to seat 10,000 people making it the largest theatre stage outside of the Corinthian Coliseum in Kallistos which is more geared toward gladitorial and athletic competitions.
At almost 15 stories tall and occupying a wide area, the main hall is planned to have a retractable roof to allow for open air performances. The side halls will remain indoors.
Controversy
Construction began on the opera house in 1252 AD and was expected to be finished by 1270 AD. Being overdue for almost fifty years and keeping the area around the opera house constantly a flutter with construction has turned many of the residents of the city against the ambitious project with many decrying that whatever prices will be charged for tickets will be beyond the means of the common folk.
There have been many allegations related to issues of corruption, bribes, and payoffs to various local concerns for exclusive material supply.
The project has also been plagued with numerous accidents. Officially, the record of accidental deaths is noted at 32, but unofficial speculation puts it at closer to 100 with so many disappearances of workers that many believe bodies lay buried beneath the stone and wood of the structure. There are already ghost stories surrounding the building and it is still years away from being finished.
