Lom

The Lom (pronounced low-m), sometimes referred to as Halflings by outsiders, are the shortest of the traditional races of Selanden. Often overlooked by other races, the Lom generally are a peaceful people and their knowledge of the earth have made them excellent farmers and merchants. There are two sub-sets of Lomish society that are connected yet removed from them, Gnomes and the Nythe. Gnomes are those of mixed Lomish heritage mingled with Fey ancestry. They are incredibly uncommon, and Gnomes have a complicated place in Lomish culture. They are often seen as wild and bad luck. The word ‘Gnome’ means ‘Not Lom’ in their language. The Nythe was nomadic in nature, wandering across the world. They are explorers, and mappers of the world around them. In the Divine Hand cosmology, the Lom are associated with the Earth.

Playing a Lom

Close to the earth and welcoming by nature, Lom embody a fine balance between the call of nature and the comfort of civilization. Their diminutive stature and congenial demeanor make them great merchants and diplomats, yet not all embody these stereotypical qualities. A Lom against the grain might be a dreamer with their head in the clouds, unconcerned with the land's bounty, or even exploit their natural affinities for personal gain. This could manifest as unscrupulous businesspeople, cunning thieves, or persuasive con-artists.
