Master Ovrin Quayle
Master Ovrin Quayle
Chief of Staff and Keeper of Numbers
Age: 61
Birth: Minor city scribe family from Caer Solais
Appearance: Small-framed and pale, with stooped shoulders and a sharp nose. Eyes constantly red-rimmed from lack of sleep. Ink-stained fingers and a permanent scowl etched into his brow. Often muttering to himself as he works.
Demeanor: Gruff, dry, impatient—especially with soldiers and warriors. Seems to always be juggling ten thoughts at once. Very little tolerance for foolishness.
Backstory:
Served under Count Edran Solhaime (Elion’s uncle) and his father before him for nearly three decades, originally as a junior clerk in the treasury.
Slowly rose to become Chief of Staff, managing correspondence, supply chains, ledgers, war records, recruitment, and taxation assessments.
Was extremely close to Ser Ronric, the Count’s eldest son and heir—mentoring him in statecraft and logistics, even acting as a surrogate uncle.
After Ronric’s death, Ovrin’s already minimal patience for court games vanished. He now harbors deep hatred for those who betrayed Ronric, including some noble houses that later pledged to Elion. He watches them closely.
Though not a warrior, Ovrin knows the worth of every bushel, blade, and bolt of cloth—and is irreplaceable to the campaign. He manages camp administration, messengers, supply trains, coinage, and all written orders.
Relationship to Elion: Reluctantly fond of him. Initially saw Elion as a reckless boy but has grown to respect his mind. Though he rarely says so, he is fiercely protective of Elion—perhaps as a way to honor Ronric’s memory.
Specialties: Logistics, budgets, troop provisioning, war correspondence, noble archives, land surveys, and long-term campaign projections.
