Captain Garran Holt

Captain Garran Holt

Commander of the Infantry

Age: 38

Birth: Common-born, son of a blacksmith in the village of Dunmere outside Caer Solais

Appearance: Weathered face, sun-tanned and lined with years of campaigning. Cropped brown hair, a squared jaw with a thin scar running down from his right cheekbone. Wears simple but sturdy armor—steel cuirass and mail, clean but unadorned. Always carries a campaign map and charcoal stick in a satchel.

Demeanor: Calm, serious, and respected. Speaks plainly but with authority. Soldiers listen when he speaks—not because they’re afraid, but because he knows what he’s talking about. Never seeks praise and avoids politics. His loyalty is iron.

Backstory:

Garran was a seasoned sergeant in the Solmark standing forces for nearly fifteen years. His low birth prevented further promotion despite outshining many noble officers.

At the Battle of Emberhill, he commanded a detachment of 50 men and executed a masterful withdrawal when the line broke, preserving more lives than any other unit.

After the collapse, Garran led his survivors into the forested highlands and waited for a sign of true leadership. When word came that Elion had returned, he rallied what remained and marched straight to Caer Solais to pledge himself.

Elion, recognizing his strategic brilliance and clear-headed courage, promoted him to Captain of Infantry, overseeing all foot companies and siege regiments.

After Elion defeated Vaeron, Garran personally oversaw the execution of the former infantry commander who attempted to rejoin Elion’s forces—a man who had turned against them at Emberhill. Garran’s disgust for disloyalty is well known.

Specialties: Siegecraft, field fortifications, discipline, drill tactics, and defensive operations. Known for adapting clan irregulars into cohesive infantry units.

Relationship to Elion: Loyal and respectful. Garran sees Elion as a rare noble—one who values merit over blood—and has quietly vowed to follow him until death.
