Cradlecloud

Based on the mistwalk spell (allowing caster to descend slowly from a great height onto puffs of smoke like clouds similar to steps instead of falling directly to the ground) some skilled wizards are able to weave these clouds into little baskets and with those, send small items or messages over great distances. There is a tale of a desperate mother sending a baby in a mist woven cradle to safety, when her hometown was under threat of an enemy army. This tale was later confirmed by a couple of magicians but the method with which they achieved it remains a closely guarded secret. There is hope that the cradle will eventually be able to hold beings larger than a chonky little todler and transport them over great distances.

Conquering the sky has been the main desire of the military and merchants alike and there is a host of failed experiments to prove that. The race of who will be able to tame the air to their liking could completely transform the world order and bring a new era forward. The cradlecloud is seen as the most promising step achieved so far.

The most stable cloud shape seems to be somewhat that of an egg cracked in half, with one slight being slightly wider than the front. Usually the transported child lies on its back gazing upwards if younger, on its belly if older and being able to crawl. Children that are able to walk have been ruled out as too fidgety for these experiments. The egg shape seems to work the best with natural wind currents and strengths and can gently guide the little cloud forward at a speed that is not threatening to the little fragile life hidden within.

Thank you for reading my world!

I used Summer Camp this year to generate new ideas that I can explore and play around with in the months to come. All of my articles are first drafts, little sketches that need further development.
