Summer Camp 2025
It's that time of the year again guys, when I make a new world and write like a maniac the moment new prompts drop, muahahahahaha! Also known as Summer Camp of course, my favourite challenge in the online writing space.
I have decided to go into this year's challenge completely blind, so the only things that trully fuel this new world are panic and madness. Both in equal portions. And maybe a little bit of ice cream on top. I have done enough of these preps to know, what does and does not actually help me write more during July.
Sadly, it is not food prompts and it is not revising my meta over and over. The copper theme will sure be challenging, but hey, it is my own fault and summer camp is meant to be a challenge.
Having a blank canvas of a world enables me to explore some cultural inspirations from history and pick absolutely anything as my root of inspiration. Recently I have visited an exhibition dedicated to the history of Mongolia so maybe we will cook up something nomadic this time. Focusing on the past might be a good reason to explore a bit more the new timelines and slightly less new chronicles that I have not really played around with. Again, Summer Camp would not be a challenge if I did not pick some fun distractions haha.
When it comes to the homepage, I am not sure yet what to do with it as I prefer to keep things simple and decluttered. Which is not really how current WA homepages are structured. But for now I do want to keep the fun summer camp theme as there are not really many opportunities out there where you can slap a giant ice cream onto your writings and still be taken seriously.
My earliest worldbuilding project was a little high fantasy thing that I was scribbling on the back of notesheets while waiting on my music lessons while I was in high school. I don't really think I knew that it is worldbuilding per se, as my native language does not actually have a singular term for worldbuilding.
Change is the key to conflict and a good story. I am excited for this prompt theme and I really hope it will not be just full of conditions and spells, or else - you guessed it - it will really be a challenge for me to write.
Picking a new genre is a delightful thought, I was itching to write a good locked room mystery, so maybe our metamorphosis will be between life and death and how to hopefully avoid being caught on the other side.
I will definitely go around and look what the community has cooked up since I have been gone due to my ever-failing health, but stickers? They are very cute, but am I the only one that finds them super annoying? There is really no point to them besides cluttering your screen. Maybe I am missing a point somewhere, but hey, I never claimed to be smart.
As a chronic procrastinator, I was chanting this word already when I was thinking about working on the summer camp homeworks and would you look at that, tomorrows came and went and I have left writing this article all the way into the deadline that is quietly creeping around my shoulders.
My startegy this year is to get out the first version of my articles, the bare bones 300 words of whatever the muses throw at me, as soon as possible. Hopefully within the first 24 hours of the announcement stream because weekends are the only favourable times for creativity I can reliably steal for myself as an adult. Any free time afterwards is a blessing and will be hopefully used to make this world and its writing way prettier than the first draft.
But you can't edit a blank screen, so, here we are, filling it up with pixels.
Good luck everyone! You got this!
