Heavenly Ruler
Dukes, kings, emperors - they go by many names, depending on the size of their territory, their egos and their crowns, but they have this in common - there can be only one sitting on the very top. The throne is not built for more and people lusting for power do not like to share anyways.
If you were not born into the line of succession, the road to the throne is extremely complicated and strenuous, but even if you were born at the right time and at the right place, you are just a fragile little child for a good amount of years and accidents cna happen to such small children if they cannot be persuaded to give up the crown to pursue their hobbies. The path to the top is never easy and it is usually paved with corpses. Hopefully yours will not be one of them just yet.
But even if you do manage to become the supreme ruler of your realm, nothing really guarantees you staying that way and between managing all of the complaints and resources one needs to manage to keep the realm holding together, there are intrigues and many sleepless nights worrying about those intrigues and state affairs. But if you ever start wondering if you did something wrong, you don't really have the opportunity to admit mistakes - admitting mistakes is like admitting weakness and where there is weakness, there is a power hungry noble waiting to thrust a sword in there to make sure that weakness will not trouble you anymore. Same with the state affairs. It is hard to keep your job when you are dead.
One could say that becoming the ruler is the top of the career ladder but few would say that it is worth all of the suffering. Maybe that's why emperors consider themselves heavenly ordained - only mad people would want this job if the fate did not thrust it upon them.
Thank you for reading my world!
I used Summer Camp this year to generate new ideas that I can explore and play around with in the months to come. All of my articles are first drafts, little sketches that need further development.
