Floating Islands
If you ever want to make it out of the continent and start a new life at sea, you need to know its ebs and flows or else you will sink before you even try to swim.
Tides come at regular intervals and it took the scholars many years to decipher the Moon's influence on their nature. Some tides are so strong and powerful they reveal new islands in the coastal area and beyond for a limited amoung of time.
Knowledge of these ever changing areas and knowledge of the moods of the Moon is vital for any sea voyager, regular fishermen and more irregular pirates alike. As the saying goes: know the sea or you will know the sea bottom.
Floating islands are piles of earth that are not quite strong enough to withstand the waves and become regular islands just yet. They only appear at certain intervals when the Moon and the Sun alignes and thus create a super strong tidal waves that help uncover or cover them.
These islands are a popular place of research for pearl and coral hunters as many different things can be found on them that you cannot get anywhere else. Journey to those are treacherous and if you do not know the sea area well, you will end up like the many fools before you, chatting with the fish for eternity.
As there have been more interest in venturing with giant ships out there into the vast ocean for long voyages, more and more of these islands started to be charted in maps along with their behavior, changes and when and how do they exactly appear. More and more of the coastal areas are being research and who knows, maybe on day the entire ocean will be mapped out on neat scrolls with vibrant colours and even more vibrant notes.
Thank you for reading my world!
I used Summer Camp this year to generate new ideas that I can explore and play around with in the months to come. All of my articles are first drafts, little sketches that need further development.
