Astronomer Wann
Deceiving the emperor is a capital crime and usually ends up in your entire family line being obliterated. It is almost as terrible as treasons, you sometimes wondre how come so many politicians still carry their heads upon their shoulders if lying in front of the monarch is considered this bad. Astronomer Wann was able to get away with far more than lying and fortunately change the way people view female scholars and female education.
Wann was born into a scholar family of astronomers but unfortunately was born with the wrong equipment under her belt and therefore could not seek a career like her brothers did. However when all of her relatives perished during the 100 years floods and her mother was taken ill, she dressed as a man and used her knowledge of mathematics and star constellations to make as much money as possible and to offer scientific consultations to whoever would ask for them.
When the rumours about an astronomer who is never wrong in his calculations got to the emperor he has invited this scholar to his court. Wann resisted and was finding an excuse after an excuse to avoid the official summons, but after almost a year of cat and mouse chase, she stood in front of the emperor, in male clothing and hoped that this will not turned into a disaster. Emperor was impressed with her skills and tasked her with some important duties to assist the ministries and she obeyed and performed her duties beautifully.
She managed to keep her sharades for 5 more years before her secret was eventually revealed. Luckily she was belowed by the entire court and her skills helped to resolve many a problem for the government so even though she had to be imprisoned for her capital lie, she was eventually released and was even able to continue her scholarly pursuits, paving a new path for educated women and their future.
Thank you for reading my world!
I used Summer Camp this year to generate new ideas that I can explore and play around with in the months to come. All of my articles are first drafts, little sketches that need further development.
