Barbarians
The concept of the barbarian is well known, but relatively few people have ever met one in person. Even in rural communities, the presence of barbarians is rare, as barbarian tribes tend to live in exceptionally remote, often physically challenging areas, such as Icewind Dale, Reghed Glacier, and Chult. This aversion to larger communities is perhaps understandable, as barbarians' reputation for destruction and disruption is not entirely unearned; their exceptional prowess in battle and ability to withstand wounds that would cleave the average person in two require tapping into primal sources of rage that make small talk and diplomacy somewhat challenging. That said, any self-respecting Sword Coast city boasts plenty of barbarians within its walls, and if a city's guard force might look upon arresting one of these exceptional warriors with dread, there's no denying they've played crucial parts in the defence of many a city and town alike over the years. Despite common misconceptions, not every famous artist or author is a bard; indeed, despite repeated accusations to the contrary, Volothamp Geddarm is in fact a wizard.
