Chaffe Shippinbottle is the current mayor of Nickwick. He is a gnome from a glassblowing family, whose business provides the main export for Nickwick, although in recent years, merchants and shippers have surpassed the income brought into the town that glass brings.
Mayor Shippinbottle is bald and moustached with hemisphere glasses, and is matter-of-fact as well as humble, both supporting and leading the town while supporting the wealthy residents under his jurisdiction, many of whom are not technical fulltime residents of the town.
He typically wears a quilted, patched, colorful vest, which is reminiscent of Nickwick Street's quilt-like rows of buildings, full of their stores and gnome apartments.
He is in close relation with other prominent gnomes and serves as a member of the Gnome Council. He is also a secret member of the Faerie Runners, but only enough to serve the imports and exports of his own town, and offering more jobs to his town's shippers, runners, and merchants. Some Faerie Runners are able to make high-tide nighttime shipments in the dark landing in the Salty Pond.
