A World of Geopolitical Intrigue
An Old Region
The region of Corvalis in which the Strangeworld campaign takes place has been inhabited by elves, humans, orcs, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and others for millennia. Many of the settlements and states of the region have stood for just as long. Indeed, the Ãkthi elvish state is the oldest known state of any kind on the Corvalan continent, and the Free City of Vvathaf is the oldest continuously inhabited human settlement on the continent, as well.
Ancient Peoples and Ancient Rivalries
Whenever long-running contact happens between disparate peoples, rivalries naturally develop. When those rivalries have centuries upon centuries to develop, fester, and become rotten, resentments can come to the fore in dangerous and unpredictable ways. Add to that the normal, daily, petty rivalries and ambitions of everyday people and the mix is ripe for conflict.
The States of the Region
There are a number of geopolitical states in the region. Beginning in the northwest, there are Hrukkizh and the Aminaagh Dominion, a strange alliance of orcish and dwarvish folk. To their south are the Etarun States, ancient city-states and petty kingdoms left standing after the collapse of the Itaros Imperium centuries ago. South of the Etarun States are the remains of the old Itaros Imperium's core territory. East of there lie the settlements of the Uphrittam Hill Dwarves. To the northwest is the Estinos Imperium. To the northeast stands the forest and High Elven Realm of Ãkthi, and just to its south the Lâtrîwâtrî Forest. South of there are the Ronic States of Melurie, Ronisie, Relgusie, Sabvath, Zhækhtu and Vvathaf, as well as Zeddokk and the Hillinsward.
