The Southlands - Geographical Overview

Most, if not all, of the Campaign will take place in The Southlands, the lower half of a continent in the Southern Hemisphere of the world. In The Southlands, the environment is largely humid and cool in the center lands, with warm coastlines blocked by tall mountain ranges. There are several large rivers which run through the borders of the 8 Nations, and the Backbone Mountain range provides an effective border between the Southlands and The North.     Grandin Mountain, so named for the capital city of Dis, is the tallest mountain peak in the world, rising 24,609 feet (7,500m) above sea level.  The Southlands' lowest point, the Grain Lagoon Basin of Tmness, is about 200 feet (61m) below sea level.  Both landmarks are considered points of cultural significance for the nations that hold them in their borders.  In Dis, climbing to the peak of Grandin Mountain is a rite of passage for the royal family; while in Tmness, Grain Lagoon Basin is seen as the birthplace of human culture and is routinely studied by archaeologists.     Throughout the Southlands, there are naturally occurring areas where magical energy spreads through the environment, causing unpredictable shifts in both living and nonliving things.  These regions are collectively referred to as Wildlands, but certain areas also have specific names as well.  For example, the Crowded Rivers and Flatstone Forest areas, while within close proximity of each other, each have their own varied histories and differing amounts of magical runoff.  Some of these Wildlands, like Crowded Rivers, are considered desirable lands for the diverse range of useful resources that seem to be replenished by the chaotic magic.  While permanent settlement is not considered desirable, the risks are sometimes deemed worth the reward
