Grandin City
At the base of Grandin Mountain, the capital city of Dis is remarkable for both the astonishing beauty of its surrounding landscape and the uniqueness of its architecture and layout. Existing as long as the nation of Dis itself, Grandin City maintains itself as a city of beauty in order to reflect the royal authority of the Winglord Tradition.
Layout and Architecture
Nestled in the jostling foothills of the Eastern Lung Mountains, Grandin City was intentionally built to accentuate the rolling hills and gentle streams of the landscape. Each stream has stone retaining walls which prevent erosion, which transition into cobbled roads in the newer portions of the city. The roads themselves wind around the bases of the hills, widening and thinning with the landscape. The arched bridges that cross the streams come at regular intervals, arching up in such a way that smaller boats and rafts can travel underneath with passengers and cargo.
The city, while being intentional in its respect for the landscape, is famously confounding for newcomers visiting for the first few times. The roads meander as rivers do, and certain neighborhoods have similar enough buildings as so make certain roundabouts feel identical. Buildings are constructed under a law that they cannot be made on top of a hill, or be made taller than the hilltop. As a result, many homes and buildings are built into the hills instead, with deeper spaces only having natural light via small skylights or mirrors that reflect the sun throughout each room. The only buildings allowed on the hilltops are the Winglord Manor and the Capital Building, the official governmental offices for the nation. Typically, a visitor is recommended that they keep watch of the Wyvern stature atop the Winglord Manor as a method of wayfinding.
