Invisible Goat

The Dal'nethar mountain valley has always been known for the wool and mohair (goat hair fabric), was touched by a plane shift and several flocks of goats were turned invisible along with several chunks of rock. While it took some time for the shepherds to figure out where the animals were and how to keep track of them again, they managed to adapt and found that naturally invisible mohair sold very well indeed. Over the next two centuries the invisible goats were bred into the flocks of other herders in the valley and the ability to produce invisible mohair became a property of the entire valley rather than just a few herdsmen.   The mohair is highly insulative, resistant to fire and magical spells (excepting earth magics), and also takes dyes well so long as you want a very ghostly appearance which set a very interesting fashion trend for several decades. Still in high demand today because of the ability to add a liner or padding without making a garment look like it's cold weather gear, invisible mohair sells at a high price indeed for just a ball of yarn. A single standard ball of woven sheep fiber sells for three coppers. A ball of invisible yarn of the same size and grade costs three silvers.   The mohair is also called for in simple enchantments that pull on the powers of the elemental plane of air, making a reasonable magical tie between the world of Stormbridge and the outer elemental plane. This easy tie in metaphysically places it in high demand with several magi and has led to bidding wars between magic users and tailors wherever the invisible mohair is sold.   The species itself seems little changed other than being invisible. Breeding and dietary needs haven't changed that anyone has noticed the only leading difficulty is keeping track of the blood lines. Interbreeding is undesirable of course and telling which buck is which now relies on braiding colored cords around the goats. Color sets belong to certain farmers so that they know which goat belongs to whom. This is then substituted by a set of shades or lesser colors that are braided into a specific pattern to let the herders know which animal they are 'looking' at.   The meat of these goats (also invisible) and their bones even are valued not just for magic but also for the novelty of eating something you cannot see. This had led to several angry chefs as well as angry manor holders when the rather expensive meat is burned or still rare and is served. The whole meal has to be cooked by smell and feel of the dish making it challenging to cook.   The leather is even more in demand and usually must be tanned by an alchemist, though several regular tanners have claimed to have done the task as well. This is usually dismissed by the general public though because the material cannot be seen without magical aid.
Scientific Name
Oreamnos Capra Ventus Domesticis
Origin/Ancestry
Changed from the Oreamnos Domesticis by the touch of the plane of wind/air.
Conservation Status
This species is mostly contained within the Dal'nethar mountain valley where they originated. However they have replaced almost all of the other sheep/goat flocks making the area much richer. A few have been stolen or wandered over time but no one has been able to get enough of a breeding population to really take them anywhere else.
