Tarsus Prime
Tarsus Prime is the main settled planet in the Tarsus Star System, located within the Scorpio Constellation. It is part of the Dominion of the Polympian Empire and plays a key role in the region’s agricultural output. The planet has strong trade ties with Apollo Prime, a fellow agricultural world, and Cepha Prime, a densely populated near-ecumenopolis. Tarsus and Chela form the "left claw" of the Scorpio Constellation, while Cepha lies at its core.
Star System
The Tarsus system consists of six planets, including Tarsus Prime. Two inner rocky planets are uninhabited and too close to the system’s star to support life. Tarsus Prime is the third planet from the star and the only one with a significant human population. Beyond Tarsus Prime, there are two gas giants with a sparse collection of moons, and a distant ice world. An asteroid belt located between the fourth and fifth planets is a rich source of minerals, often mined by off-world corporations.Geography
Tarsus Prime is dominated by vast agricultural plains and scattered mountain ranges. Approximately 40% of its surface is covered by water, mostly in the form of lakes and rivers that irrigate the planet’s fertile farmland. The mild, stable climate and standard atmosphere make Tarsus an ideal agricultural hub.
Society & Culture
Life on Tarsus Prime is largely rural, with much of the population engaged in agricultural work. The planet is governed by a self-perpetuating oligarchy, whose members control the major farming corporations and dictate planetary policy. Despite its agrarian focus, Tarsus maintains a close-knit social structure where community bonds are strong. The ruling oligarchy has considerable influence but allows the population a degree of autonomy in local affairs. Law enforcement is moderate, with restrictions on the ownership of automatic, high-caliber, or energy weapons. While lacking the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Cepha Prime, Tarsus Prime has developed its own traditions, centered around farming cycles and agricultural festivals.Economy
The planet’s economy revolves around large-scale farming, with extensive trade connections to neighboring systems. Tarsus Prime's Class C starport handles significant agricultural exports, feeding high-population worlds like Cepha Prime. Though its tech level is somewhat lower than the core worlds (Tech Level 8), Tarsus Prime remains a vital part of the Dominion's food supply chain.Fauna & Flora
While human settlers dominate Tarsus Prime, there are several species of native flora and fauna. The most notable is the Tarsian Plainsbeast, a large herbivorous creature that has been domesticated for use in agriculture. Several species of native crops, such as Tarsian root grain, are also farmed, prized for their hardiness and high nutritional value.
History
Historically, Tarsus Prime was under the rule of the Scorpio-Imperii house during the Galactic Empire’s reign. After the empire’s fall, a minor noble house took power through a coup and established the Dominion. Tarsus Prime, like the rest of the Scorpio Constellation, became part of this new empire. Although it is now a Dominion world, remnants of the old nobility remain influential in the planet’s agricultural elite.
