Kaas Prime

Kaas System

The Kaas System orbits a stable G-type star and includes four planets. The closest is Kaas I, a barren rocky world, scorched and uninhabitable. Second is Kaas Prime, the only fully inhabited planet, known for its breathable atmosphere, fertile land, and frequent powerful storms fueled by solar activity. Further out lies Kaas III, a large gas giant with a naval depot and mining colonies on its moons, extracting Hydrogen and rare isotopes essential for starship fuel. On the system’s edge is Kaas IV, a frozen rocky world hosting small research stations and mining outposts exploiting mineral deposits preserved in its icy crust. The Kaas System’s strategic installations make it a key player on the edge of Dominion space.

Main World: Kaas Prime
Classification: Wetland Garden World with Seasonal Storms
Atmosphere: Breathable (High Humidity)
Population: Human dominant, in lightning conductor pylon protected settlements.
Kaas Prime orbits the inner edge of its system’s habitable zone and is largely covered by ocean. Five continents dot the surface, three inhabited and two locked under thick polar ice caps at the magnetic poles. The inhabited landmasses are divided into the Lowlands and the Highlands. The Lowlands form a ring around each continent’s central highlands, made up of marshes, swamps, and wetlands created by centuries of runoff, storm drainage, and seasonal flooding. Thick vegetation blankets the Lowlands, including fruit-bearing trees, vines, grasses, and flowering shrubs. Animal life is abundant, with birds, reptiles, frogs, insects, and fish. Most infamous is the Kaasagator, a six-legged amphibious predator known for its immense bite strength and stealth, which hunts mostly at night. The Highlands are drier and more exposed, with grassy plains and rocky hills surrounding mountain ranges. Sparse biodiversity includes herds of kaasian spotted deer, smaller critters, and hardy birds that endure the frequent lightning strikes during the storm season.   Kaas experiences violent seasonal thunderstorms covering up to a quarter of the planet at once. These storms shaped settlement patterns for centuries. During the Imperial era, most workers came only for the calm season to harvest crops, leaving as storms returned. A small population remained year-round as plantation caretakers or settlers living off the land in isolated highland homesteads. The Lowlands host major sugar, spice, and fruit plantations that supply a thriving soft drink and alcohol industry, including the famous Kaas Cola and a popular fruity bourbon. Forestry exists but is limited by dense jungle, while the Highlands remain mostly untouched with a few mines and grain farms.   After peaceful reintegration into the Dominion, the Polympian Empire instituted land reforms. Many absentee landlords never returned, and former caretakers became legal owners, founding a new local nobility. Some sold land to off-world investors; others established estates of their own. Imperial engineers installed massive lightning conductors across inhabited continents, creating safe zones under which permanent towns and cities grew. These towers also capture lightning energy stored in industrial batteries, sold off-world. This energy surplus makes Kaas a valuable power exporter, and ownership of the conductors is a source of wealth and influence. Kaas Prime has grown from a forgotten agricultural world into a thriving energy hub, with a people proud and resourceful amid their harsh yet beautiful environment.

Geography

Kaas Prime have five continents, with three inhabited continents with large islands dotted around the planet surface, all surrounded by a large body of water, the planetary ocean. The inhabited continents are generally divided into two geographic zones, The Lowlands and The Highlands. The two uninhabited continents are completely covered by the polar ice caps at the magnetic poles of the planet.   The Lowlands is, as the name suggests, low lying land and surrounds the highlands at the edge of the ocean. it is composed by a mix of swamp, marsh and wetlands. That has been created by the natural draining of water from the highlands, combined with seasonal floods and thunderstorms. it is in these lands where the vast majority of wildlife species exists, and its the most diverse in plant life. The Highlands are higher lying centres of each continental landmass. they are made up of grassy plains that rolls across the rolling hills and surrounds the Mountains of these lands. these lands are only inhabited by the most sturdy of birds and land animals, due to the lack of natural cover during the thunder season. Kaas has repeated weather pattern of seasonal high intensity thunderstorms, with high wind speeds and floods, that encompass nearly a quarter of the planets surface at any given time.

Fauna & Flora

The Lowlands of Kaas has a high level of biodiversity, with many trees, bushes and grasses. with many fruit bearing trees and bushes among them. this has also led to a diverse animal life in the lowlands with many birds, frogs, lizards, insects and fish living in and around the Lowlands.   The Highlands of Kaas has a comparatively sparse biodiversity, with mostly gasses, lichen and moss covering the rocky hills and mountains of the highlands. this has also led to a similarly sparse animal life, it being mostly snakes, mongooses and birds with small herds of spotted deer. the reason if this lack of biodiversity in the highlands its due to the more exposed plains and the increased altitude causing many strikes during the passing thunder-season.   Famous/Infamous Animal: Kaasagator.

The Kaasagator is a six-legged amphibious reptilian apex predator that is native to the marshes, swamps and wetlands of the Kaas Lowlands. adult kaasagators are typically between 4 and 8 meters long and typically live for 30-50 years. they typically have a mass of well over 300kg. its naturally an ambush predator and have an incredible bite strength. It will often lie waiting in the water for an unattending prey to come by with only its eyes and nostrils sticking out. human encounters with an angry kaasagtor is almost always fatal. fortunately for humans traversing the lowlands, the Kaasagator is predominately a nocturnal hunter, conserving its energy in the daytime.

Natural Resources

Due to the humid conditions of the Lowlands there is rich opportunity for naturally growing Sugar, Fruit and Spice plants. this have been utilized by human settlers on the world for centuries, forming large plantations with many fruit orchards and sugar and spice fields. The large output of the lowland plantations have formed the basis of a Soft-drinks and Alcoholic-drinks industry With the most well known brands being Kaas Cola TM the producer of a empire known cola soft drink, and a fruity bourbon. due to dense jungles that covers parts of the lowlands there is also a Forestry Industry present. The Highlands is mostly untouched by industry. with only a small number of mines and a few scattered gain farms   With the Seasonal Thunderstorm, and with the return into imperial domain, a large Energy industry has come into being on Kaas. with the large mass lightening conductors serving as power generators by absorbing lightning strikes and storing the energy in battery banks. leading to the planet having a vast over production of electrical power. this in turn has formed the basis of a energy trading industry, with companies buying shares into individual conductors or buying charge of the conductor shareholders and selling it off world through charging container sized batteries to be sold.

History

Kaas Prime, has long been a planetary province of the Galactic Empire, but due to the inhospitable weather of the planet, most colonization attempts where limited in scope. During the glory days of the Galactic Empire, the planet had a limited permanent residence, with most people being brought in as seasonal workers to work the fruit and sugar plantations of the lowlands. seasonal workers who would leave together with that years harvest as the thunder season began.   Due to furious thunderstorms on Kaas it required of the few permanent residence to be hardy and resourceful folks. with some taking up jobs as care takers for the off-world owned plantations others just lived off the land protecting their small highland homesteads or hunting and crafting to meet their survival needs. while the calm season brought in many poor people to work the plantation, it also brought in among them criminals hiding from the law, with some of these staying behind on Kaas for various reasons.   Kaas Prime being a planet that mostly served to bring in luxurious agricultural goods and a bit of income to off-world nobles, it became very isolated during the Galatic Civil War. the seasonal flow of workers stopped, putting a stress on the need for resourcefulness and a hardy attitude among the residence. Due to being largely isolated population, only coming into contact with off-worlds very sparingly and them mostly being criminals on the run or refugees, and the few captains they flew them to Kaas. the population over time developed a unique accent of the imperial tongue. it became oddly lilting, sing-songy and with a slight off pronunciation of vowels.   After the Rebirth of the Empire, the Polympian Throne sent a force to Kaas Prime. the prepared for fight didnt come to be, since the force was met with welcome arms. with the imperial residents of Kaas declaring that they had always been loyal to the imperial throne, no matter where it was now seated. Kaas Prime became apart of the Dominion of the imperial throne. with many of the off-world nobles whom used to own the plantations now gone. there was a large land reform that redistributed the plantations to now being considered the legal owner ship of the previously employed caretakers. some sold off their ownership to Polympian nobles but many claimed the land as their own an thusly an new noble class on Kaas was born. with Kaas in the Imperial fold and no longer forgotten, trade and industry picked up and so the population on Kaas grew, though living space was still quite limited an still required a hardiness to survive the thunder season. That changed when the empire funded the installation of enormous mass lightning conductors spread out across the landmass of Kaas prime. these conductors provided for a safe umbrella for which to live under and built towns that later grew into cities, while these lighting conductors provided for a safe space they also with developments in battery technology became the basis of the planetary energy production.
