Durus

The Durus are a near-human race known for their unique physical characteristics. They possess elongated, pointed ears with facial features that include broad and flat nasal bridges, setting them apart from other species. Their hair exhibits predominantly orange and red color tones, while their eyes come in vibrant yellow and orange hues. Their skin tone ranges from lighter shades to deep chocolate brown tones. Durus are naturally athletic, with a physique that reflects their adaptability and endurance. Notably, Durus are capable of interbreeding with humans, highlighting their genetic versatility.

Traits:

Naturally Athletic: Durus are nautrally athletic. Durus have a DM+1 to all Athletic Checks.   Heightened Sense: Durus elongated ears provide them with excellent hearing. All Durus receive DM+1 to any Recon and Survival skill checks.

While Duro is the cradle of Durus civilization, members of this species can be found far and wide across the galaxy. Their adaptability and resilience have led to their presence in various regions, and they have played a significant role in shaping the galactic landscape.

The Durus have a rich and complex cultural heritage, deeply rooted in their history of struggle and resilience. The Durus have been instrumental in the founding of the Galactic Republic, an entity dedicated to peace, diplomacy, and the harmonious coexistence of diverse species. Their contributions to this pivotal establishment reflect their commitment to fostering unity and cooperation among various species, leaving an indelible mark on the galaxy's future.   In ancient Durus culture, there exist three prominent religious cults: the Ferox Sisterhood, the NokFrey, and The Way. The Ferox Sisterhood is exclusively for females and is known for its distinctive body-covering black and white warpaint, some of which is even transformed into permanent tattoos. Members of the Ferox Sisterhood are renowned for their ferocity, often entering into frenzied, bloodthirsty battles fueled by hatred and vengeance. This reputation has led some to employ them as assassins.     The NokFrey, a male counterpart to the Ferox Sisterhood, are known for bathing their bodies in grey ashes and using red and black warpaint to paint their faces. The term "NokFrey" translates to "Man-tracker" or "Man-hunter" in ancient Durus. Like the Ferox Sisterhood, the NokFrey have also been utilized as bounty hunters and trackers.     Followers of The Way share a communal life in the outback of Duro, far removed from modern luxuries and urban life. Those who choose this ancient way of life, known as "The Way," follow a unique tradition. In adherence to their belief that an adult male can only reveal his face to his most trusted and loved relations, they religiously wear bright-colored shemaghs in public at all times. It is said they use the color to express themselves. This distinctive practice makes adherents of "The Way" easily identifiable.   As the Durus have evolved within the fabric of the Galactic Republic, their ancient cults may have seen a shift in influence, as many Durus have chosen not to follow them. While these three cults remain prominent with unique practices, the majority of Durus may adhere to a variety of other beliefs, if any, or may not actively participate in any of these cults.

The Durus endured centuries of enslavement under the rule of the human-dominated Galactic Empire. This oppressive period of subjugation persisted for a very long time until the eruption of the Slave Wars, spanning the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Durus Rebellions. It was during the third rebellion that the emperor's demise and the subsequent civil war triggered the collapse of the empire. In the midst of the chaos, the Durus seized their long-awaited opportunity to break free. They fled the clutches of their oppressors and eventually united to form what would evolve into the Galactic Republic.
