Resurrection

Stories abound in children's tales and folklore of magical ways to bring a great hero or loved one back to life, but the truth is more complicated.

As far as any magical methodology is concerned, you cannot bring the dead back from the afterlife.
Many magical phenomena exist to heal, recouperate, treat ailments, or even improve certain aspects of life. And to the eye of those that are uneducated in the ways of medicine and magical theory some look like returning someone to life. But in cases where someone is "saved from death", the truth is that they had never truly passed. The body retains elements of life for longer than some might expect, and magic can help preserve or empower those embers. Magic can even provide life-sustaining requirements until a more skilled healer can be fetched. But once Death has passed judgement and ruled that the mortal must move into the afterlife only the divine may intervene.

All of this said, this does not stop people from making claims at unlocking the secret of true resurrection or returning a soul from the beyond, but the learned in such matters are often skeptical. Even the concepts of the 'undead' are ruled by physicians and metaphysical scholars to mostly be cases of magical spirits being bound to a physical shell (willingly or unwillingly) rather than the original soul being denied an afterlife.
