Stone Gut

Eat carefully. It's better to go hungry than to get Stone Gut.

Stone Gut is a condition in werewolves caused by consuming too much contaminated food. It is most common with foods that are contaminated with coal dust. This includes any animals that have eaten contaminated plants or prey, or have eaten coal dust on the leaves of the plants they eat. It also includes plants that have absorbed coal dust through the soil.

The West Virginia and Smoky Mountain Territories are the most affected by this, but the Ozark Mountain Territory is also affected, only to a lesser degree.

Symptoms of Stone Gut

Stone Gut makes the werewolf's digestive system sluggish. It gets its name because many wolves literally feel as though there is a stone in their stomach. Along with the sluggishness comes pain. Wolves affected by Stone Gut aren't easily able to move their bowels, adding to their discomfort. Their wolf form is particularly "heavy" when affected by this disease, and this often comes with restlessness due to the inability to shift normally.

Other symptoms of Stone Gut include:

  • difficulty shifting between forms
  • metallic taste that won't go away
  • dulled senses and slower reflexes
  • stomach pain and digestive issues
  • temporary loss of enhanced healing

Treatment:

  • Marrow Moth wing scale powder
  • Fasting and drinking pure spring water
  • Veiltender purification rituals

Prevention

Hunters are advised to move as far away from the industrial centers near their territories as possible before bringing down any game. All food should be tested by a Rootwalker before being consumed. Farms should be built as far from coal mines as possible to avoid contamination, and farmers are encouraged to check their crops regularly for signs of contamination so crops can be covered if necessary.
