The International Space Station

To look down and see the earth floating beneath you is something I can't describe. It fills you with wonder, and sadness...
— an astronaut aboard the International Space Station

History

Uses

The International Space Station was a manufactured satellite in orbit around Earth. It was used by a range of organizations in the 2000s to help them understand more about space and the planet Earth. They carried out experiments and it also allowed them to monitor Earth from above. Most importantly, it protected its inhabitants from the vacuum of space, in order for them to carry out their work.

Inhabitants

The Space station was inhabited by a range of people including scientists astronauts and, in some cases, tourists. In the late 2000s, billionaires would pay millions of pounds to visit the space station and have tours. This was much to the annoyance of those who lived and worked there, but the current governments liked the money it brought in.

Current Status

The Space Station was abandoned when the space flight ban was brought into place in 3256. Scientists and astronauts could no longer inhabit the station, so the project was disbanded. The Space Station was never brought back to Earth, and so continues to orbit it until someone decides its fate.

Owner

The International Space Station is now owned by the The United Space Confederation. It was given to them when they became in charge of spaceflight on Earth. However, even after the lifting of the spaceflight ban, they are unsure whether the space station will be safe for inhabitants in the future.

Future Uses

There is a possibility of converting the space station into a hotel ore tourist location in the near future. However, even with the spaceflight ban lifted there are many who feel that spaceflight should be reserved for science an exploration, not tourism.
