The ~5920 Eruption of Mt. Snowflame

Around a hundred years ago, Mt. Snowflame—the volcano at the center of Stellara Island—belched out countless gasses, lava, and debris, devastating much of the island and sending the entire world of Starlo into a mini ice age. During this time, crops failed, sickness reigned, and the Kingdom of Meiwura—having extended itself across much of the western continent of Lalore—vanished without a trace.   In the Kingdom of Stellara, the inability of king Zoral Lazuli to prevent the devastion of his people prompted a civil war, killing large swaths of the population and ending in his dethronement, and that of The Lazulis as a whole in favor of The Rosettas, who have ruled ever since.   Between the horrific climate and the civil wars—a second one followed the first, as the initial Rosetta rulers turned out to be tyrants and thus had to be deposed by their own children—Muddy and Ariadne Katon's parents were the only ones of their siblings to survive to adulthood, and so the two of them have no living aunts and uncles.   Though researchers have yet to find evidence of magical influence on this eruption, some theorize that there was more to it than official reports from the time claim.   (Author's Note: The exact date of the eruption is still pending as I build out the rest of my story.)
