Echo Forks
Echo Forks are a unique and unintended consequence of the proliferation of Drift Beacons . They allow for Drift Travel to specific locations based on the interference patterns between Beacons. Normally invisible to all but the most sensitive of instruments, by tuning a Drift engine to navigate to nodes along these patterns, a ship can travel to more spaces than Beacons would normally allow.
Mostly used by sophisticated groups involved with less-than-legal operations.
Safe navigation of Echo Forks requires:
- Drift engine upgrade to move along nodes
- Navigation upgrade to mark nodes
Since millions of nodes can exist of various strengths, shared knowledge of which nodes are "good" and which lead nowhere is important as well.
Risks with Echo Forks are their fragility. If a Drift Beacon moves or is removed from its fixed location in space, the forks caused by interference patterns with other Beacons will shift accordingly.
