The Ghost of Arch Passage

"The place chains rattle and ravens stare, something dreadful is waiting there."
The Ghoat of Arch Passage is an urban legend dating back to 3168 and is still alive today. The legend tells of a ghost that haunts the now famous Arch Passage.

The Ghost

The spirit itself is described as often either a revanent of a fallen soldier from the Herriland Civil Wars, or sometimes even the ghost of a plague doctor who was tricked by The Crow . The ghost is described as wearing dark clothing and the mask of a raven and a left arm that is black and feathered with sharp talons. The legend says that the ghost is often surrounded by ravens with dark red eyes, often landing on their shoulder. The ravens are said to watch any intruders to the passage, alerting the ghost with their calls.

The Deaths

The Ghost of Arch Passage is not a peaceful one, being told as willing to kill anyone that tresspasses on it's streets. The legend goes that once alerted by it's ravens, the ghost will appear in front of the tresspasser, and will ask for one of their deepest secrets. If the victim does not answer, or if the revenant is not satisfied, it will remove it's mask and forcible take the secret with their dreadful stare, killing the victim.

Cultural Impact

The Ghost of Arch Passage is one of the more famous myths in the city. However, in the current day, the story is seen as more myth than truth, but has still spawned some superstitions around venturing near Arch Passage at night. To the Church of the Lightbearer, the legend is an uncomfortable mystery, scaring even the bravest of their Cullers from patrolling the area. Even those regarded as unholy are fearful of the tale, often avoiding the area too.

Literature

Many books and poems mention the Ghost of Arch Passage, especially literature about Fellian legends.

Art

The revernant is a popular subject for many artists throughout Starfell, often creating their own interpretations of the ghost and it's many ravens.

Theatre and Storytelling

The legend is not a common topic for theatre production, due to the lack of details known and the somewhat "unholy" nature of the myth, a few smaller acting troupes, namely the Harrowers Troupe have attempted adapting the legend for the stage, finding mild success. However, As a story by word of mouth, The Ghost of Arch passage is a very popular tale, often told between siblings, or older children to their peers.

Historical Basis

Around the time that the legend surfaced, there were a few unexplainable deaths in and around Arch Passage. The deaths showed similarity to vampire attacks, though the victims had no visble bite or scratch wounds. All the corpses had a shocked expression, with completely black eyes and what resembled black dust on their lips. Since the initial incident, there have been a many disappearances associated with the area, though no corpses were found.

Yeah, I don't think you could pay me to go through Arch Passage at night. Just in case. Even though the ghost sounds really cool to look at.
