The Sovereign Divines
Within Arvore, the Sovereign Divines are revered as the sacred children of the goddess Arvore herself—humans who once walked the world as mortals and were later elevated to divinity. Each of the four Divines embodies one of the fundamental elements of Arvore. Legends describe them as heroes of unparalleled virtue, men and women who accomplished great deeds in service to harmony and the natural order. For their devotion, Arvore is said to have granted them immortality, reshaping their spirits into elemental gods who would guide and protect the world in her stead. Their temples, shrines, and traditions are woven deeply into the culture of Arvore, and countless citizens continue to offer prayer and gratitude to the Divines despite their ancient disappearance from mortal sight.
Yet belief in the Sovereign Divines is far from universal. Because the gods have not revealed themselves—and never intervene directly—many cast doubt upon the tales of their ascension. Scholars and theologians argue fiercely over their legitimacy. Some claim the Divines threaten the very foundation of human free will, contradicting the original design of life established by Amare, the prime creator goddess. Others embrace a more skeptical stance, asserting that if the Divines truly exist, they should appear, act, or communicate with their worshippers. Thus, Arvore’s society stands, not divided, but open-minded: one side shaped by faith in unseen guardians, the other guided by reason, autonomy, and doubt. Whether the Sovereign Divines are true gods, forgotten spirits, or simply stories passed down through generations remains one of Arvore’s greatest mysteries—one that continues to shape its culture, philosophy, and identity.
