Gargoyle

Gargoyles are a rare and haunting race of the Sisterworlds, tall and slender beings whose pale, elven-like features and glowing blue eyes contrast with the slow curse that defines their lives. Unlike most humans, they can live for more than two centuries, but with each passing year their skin gradually hardens into stone. At first appearing in scattered patches across their bodies, this stony growth spreads until, at the end of their lives, they are fully encased in a final petrified form. Though this affliction is often a burden, it grants them unique resilience, their hardened skin serving as natural armor against blades and blows. Some Gargoyles can even will their bodies into complete stone in moments of desperation, rendering themselves invulnerable for a short time at the cost of movement. In this balance of fragility and endurance, Gargoyles live as both tragedy and marvel—long-lived protectors who carry the weight of their curse until their final breath, when they return to the earth as statues that outlast their memory.
