Session 08: The Sabaac Tournament

General Summary

The heroes spend the early days of the tournament working security without incident, keeping an eye on the crowd and making their presence known. Their diligence pays off when they catch a Sullustan attempting to smuggle a blaster pistol into the venue. The situation is handled quietly, but it reminds the heroes that danger still lingers beneath the glamour of the event.   Soon after, the heroes receive a message summoning them to a clandestine meeting. Sensing a trap, they go prepared—and rightly so. The rendezvous turns out to be an ambush by the Sky Guard. Quick thinking and cooler heads prevail as the heroes manage to talk their way out of the situation, discovering that Silas Draver had orchestrated the entire setup. They report the incident to the tournament organizer, who agrees the event must continue as planned.   At the end of the second day, a message from Captain Okeefe confirms that Imperial communications have gone silent. She warns the heroes that a contingency plan is in place to ensure Lieutenant Arandis reaches the final table. The tournament is no longer just a game—it’s part of something much bigger.   On the final day, the tension breaks when the heroes catch Creeska slipping a skifter into his coat. Mouse swiftly acts, removing Creeska from the table and placing him under arrest. But the calm doesn’t last. Thugs begin pouring into the casino armed with blasters. Silas Draver announces his plan to seize the tournament pot. The heroes act immediately—stunning Draver and gunning down his thugs before the chaos can spiral further.   As the smoke clears, the tournament plays on. The final hand is dramatic: Lady Fioro plays a perfect Pure Sabacc, while Lt. Arandis theatrically reveals his hand to spell “137.12.” The moment is shattered as another wave of thugs storms the floor, attempting to steal the pot and free Draver. The heroes dispatch them with practiced efficiency, but tragedy strikes. Arandis is killed in the crossfire, and Lady Fioro is mortally wounded.   With her dying breaths, Fioro confesses that she worked for Darga the Hutt. The number Arandis revealed—137.12—is a slave circuit command code for a Gallofree Medium Transport currently in orbit. She had already transmitted it to Darga before the shooting. She tells the heroes the only way to control the slave circuit is through a special computer aboard Darga’s yacht. She also reveals Darga is docked in Bay 4414, but warns he’ll be gone within the hour.   Wasting no time, the heroes rush to intercept the fleeing Hutt. Along the way, they are ambushed once more by Sky Guard agents, while the clanking steps of stormtroopers echo from behind. Drawing on the Force, Mouse convinces the Sky Guard to stand aside, allowing the heroes to reach the turbolift to Darga’s hangar.   There, they confront Darga in a dramatic showdown. He is flanked by his personal guard, a squadron of Z-95 Headhunter pilots, and a deadly Magnaguard droid. A fierce battle erupts. The heroes steal several Z-95s, gunning down both the Magnaguard and Darga himself. But with his dying breath, Darga delivers a chilling message: he has programmed a tibanna gas hauler to crash into the Gallofree transport. Thousands will die, and the only proof of the Sarlaac Project will be destroyed.   As the hangar burns behind them, Droshahn and R5 claim Darga’s personal yacht, The Glorious Chariot, while Kira, Mouse, Z1A, Merrik, and Pax take control of the Z-95s. They regroup in the skies with Captain Okeefe aboard The Banshee, but their escape is far from assured. Cloud City has one last challenge for the heroes—a squadron of Cloud Cars closes in, weapons hot. The battle for truth and survival is not over yet.
