Personal log, Lt. JG. Lon Taril. Stardate 81307.6

I am so glad we ended up with that slipstream drive. The Pelion is relatively spacious for a runabout, but even so the limited space, the lack of ability to go somewhere … I was starting to feel it, feel the memories of Korbin. I found myself automatically checking life support at least two dozen times on the journey. I think I need to book a session with a counselor when I get a chance.

The rest of the team are interesting. Lt. Aze seems dismissive of organics, but is otherwise a good companion. It’s interesting to meet someone who doesn’t register at all to telepathy. Even those species immune to it are there, if you’re close enough and focus hard enough, but Aze… isn’t. It’s almost a relief. With most people I have to focus all the time to suppress telepathy so I don’t intrude, but I can relax with the android.

I tried to get Lt Alissa to open up a bit. We share interests so I’d hoped to find a friend there, but she’s a bit reclusive. I’m assuming it has something to do with the bias against Cardassians. I know they are not regarded well after the Cardassian war, the Dominion war, the Marquis, etc. I hope she doesn’t think I blame her for the invasion of Betazed; I might have been born there but I don’t even remember the place. I’ll try reaching out again.

Don’t know a lot about Lt Pax, but they seem dedicated enough. They are apparently used to dangerous situations. I’m sure we’ll build a good rapport.

Lt.Commander Sosalis, I had an odd first impression of him but I think that was mostly due to a bout of cabin fever. Two weeks alone on a runabout… can’t blame him. He backed Pax up when the other away teams did some… what’s the word, hazing? So that’s good.

We’re heading for the surface of TV’ral III's third moon in a minute, our first team mission. I’m confident, but remember but remember professor T’rals advice; Overconfidence is a distortion of logic, wherein assumption replaces analysis.

Addendum, stardate 81307.6

The moon, despite initial scans, was inhabited. Between a brief, partial tricorder return and my own telepathy we discovered an outpost hidden by some form of holographic blind or cloak, occupied by a mixed species group. They had no obvious uniforms or identifiers and they opened fire without warning.

We took the outpost, discovering a fairly large and well set up base. Initial appearance indicates a dilithium extraction facility. We should secure it and explore further.

Commander Sosalis is brave, almost to the point of suicidally brave. He charged the (still invisible) base single handedly. I followed as best I could, but had been caught off guard by Sosalis’ charge. I think he was expecting us to back him up automatically. I’m guessing he had a veteran team before us, the sort of people who would anticipate him without the need to issue orders.

And I… I am responsible for a death. I stunned one of the … guards I think? But he flinched, and somehow ended up shooting himself with his own disruptor. I know. It was a fight. He was armed. I didn’t intend to kill him. But his death is still somewhat my responsibility. It’s not a good feeling. Reminder, appointment with ships councilor.

End log.
