El-Aurians

Written by DoStuffZ

Species Name: El-Aurian
Homeworld: Unknown (believed destroyed by the Borg)
Physiology: El-Aurians are long-lived humanoids, visually indistinguishable from Humans, but with enhanced temporal awareness and subtle empathic perception. They age extremely slowly, with recorded lifespans of at least several centuries. Their nervous systems are unusually sensitive to temporal distortions and subspace flux—sometimes registering chronotemporal anomalies instinctively before they are detected technologically.

Cultural Overview:

  • “Listeners”: El-Aurian society is centered on observation, empathy, and understanding rather than conquest or transformation. Their cultural philosophy prizes patience, reflection, and the ability to hear what others truly mean—often beyond spoken words.
  • Scattered Diaspora: Their homeworld was assimilated by the Borg over a century ago. Survivors are rare, scattered across the galaxy, and generally reticent about their past. Most El-Aurians live as wanderers, observers, or quiet guides within other civilizations.
  • Temporal Sensitivity: El-Aurians have shown the ability to perceive timeline alterations, temporal incursions, and dimensional shifts—sometimes instinctively. This ability is not fully understood by Federation science and may function subconsciously in many individuals.
  • Emotional Depth: Despite outward calm and patience, El-Aurians experience emotions deeply. Many carry unspoken grief from centuries of loss or dislocation.

Starfleet Roles:

  • Rare within Starfleet, but highly valued when present.
  • Most serve in Counseling, Diplomatic, or Scientific roles, where their listening skills, memory, and long-view perspectives are unparalleled.
  • May experience moral strain or internal conflict if drawn into combat roles, or if asked to violate their passive observational principles.

Species Mechanics (2e-Compatible Expansion from 1e Core):

ATTRIBUTES: +1 Insight, +1 Presence, +1 Reason
TRAIT: El-Aurian

  • Naturally empathic and reflective: may reduce Difficulty on tasks involving negotiation, de-escalation, or emotional insight.
  • Sensitive to temporal shifts: may gain early warning (Advantage or narrative prompt) when time travel, paradoxes, or chronometric phenomena are present.
  • Extremely long-lived: Advantage on historical recall, cross-era recognition, and detecting patterns across centuries.
  • May suffer Complications when exposed to temporal dissonance, Borg-related trauma triggers, or emotional overload from empathic cross-contamination.

SPECIES ABILITY — LISTENER’S INSTINCT:
Once per scene, after making an Insight- or Presence-based Task (especially Social, Empathy, or Command tasks), you may:

  • Ask the GM one question as if you had spent Momentum to Obtain Information.
  • This question must be related to intent, hidden meaning, emotional state, or subtext—not tactical or mechanical details.
  • The GM must answer truthfully within narrative reason, reflecting the El-Aurian’s instinctive awareness of conversational depth.

Narrative Hooks:

  • The El-Aurian senses a timeline shift no one else remembers—and evidence of the “real” version is vanishing.
  • A diplomatic incident unfolds, but the PC hears what the other ambassador won’t say—altering the mission's stakes.
  • The crew discovers the PC once served during the early Borg conflicts and has hidden the trauma for decades.
  • An alien AI mistakenly identifies the El-Aurian as a chronometric anomaly and attempts containment or assimilation.
