CRV-4 “Pathfinder” Modular Field Vehicle

“Deployed in minutes. Reconfigured in seconds. Starfleet’s answer to planetary unpredictability.”

Scene: Planetary Surface – Peripheral Ridge, M'Tael V

The away team stood atop the ridge, looking out across a jagged basin choked with obsidian spires and wind-carved dust corridors. The terrain was uneven, unstable—unsuitable for a beam-out. Atmospheric interference from localized ionic distortion had been worsening by the hour.

Lt. Seral tapped his combadge.
“Bridge, this is Surface Team One. Beam-out is no longer viable. We require a Pathfinder at our current coordinates. Ground traversal only. Authorization Sierra-One-Five.”

There was a brief pause, followed by the cool affirmation of the Ops officer on the Heimdahl:
“Confirmed. Vehicle deployment initiated.”

A shimmer of transporter light fractured the dusty air several meters downslope. In a flash of blue and white energy, a 2.5-meter cubical cargo crate materialized, landing with a low thud. The team instinctively scanned their surroundings as the crate's soft hum kicked in, its outer panel lights pulsing with readiness.

“Crate’s here,” said Crewman Velas, already jogging downslope.

A second transporter signal flared moments later—briefer, tighter—a sealed containment cylinder containing the cold SARI fusion pack thudded into the dirt nearby. Safely uncharged, its secure status winked green.

Velas knelt at the side panel and tapped a recessed interface.
“Deploy Pathfinder.”

The crate came alive.

Panels hissed, disengaging from magnetic locks. Hinges rotated. Hydraulic arms extended like the joints of an unfolding insect. The modular chassis emerged from the heart of the crate, telescoping outward and locking with precise Starfleet grace. Tires aligned. Axle supports clicked into place. The frame stood—squat, wide-shouldered, and unmistakably ready.

Two of the crate’s side panels were lifted by hand and secured as the Pathfinder’s forward armor and top plating, snapping to smart-clamps with a satisfying clack. The final piece—the SARI pack—was guided into its cradle behind the pilot seat, where it locked in with a rising tone of power initialization.

A soft hum resonated through the frame. Lights blinked to life on the dash.

Lt. Seral turned back to the ridge.
“Bridge—vehicle assembled. You can clean up the rest.”

From orbit, a precise micro-transporter sweep blinked away the now-empty crate base, leaving no evidence behind—no gear, no waste, no trace.

The Pathfinder rolled forward with a growl of torque and quiet, electric promise. The team climbed aboard. It was time to move.

Mission Profiles

1. Pathfinder: On-Road / Urban Recon (Speed Mode)

“Fast. Quiet. Just another transport on the street.”

FeatureLoadout
Power SourceQuantum Capacitor Stack (lightweight, low EM signature)
Mobility SystemOmni-directional magneto-torque wheels (road-optimized)
Top Speed180 km/h ground max
Noise LevelNear-silent
SensorsUrban density adaptive mapping, subdermal structure scanner
Visual ProfileSleek, compact—disguisable as local civ vehicle with holo-overlay
Use CaseDiplomatic infiltrations, urban surveillance, high-speed courier ops
NotesLight armor; can't handle rough terrain without suspension recalibration.

2. Pathfinder: Off-Road / Terrain Assault (Ranger Mode)

“Built to climb. Meant to survive.”

FeatureLoadout
Power SourceSARI Pack (Fusion Core) – long-duration rugged supply
Mobility SystemTerrain-reactive all-terrain tires + active suspension struts
Top Speed90 km/h over rugged ground
ArmorReinforced duranium paneling from crate sides (Class-2 ballistic shielding)
SensorsTerrain sonar, EM flare tracker, weather-forecast module
Rear Mount OptionSupply crate / med-evac sled / micro-lab / micro-turret
Use CaseMountain, desert, jungle, or post-disaster zones
NotesCan ford water, scale 60° slopes, and self-right from minor flips.

3. Pathfinder: Grav-Lev / Stealth Recon (Phantom Mode)

“When roads are deathtraps… rise above.”

FeatureLoadout
Power SourceMicro Deuterium Cartridge (shielded core)
Mobility SystemGrav-lev repulsor pods – silent hover at 1–2m altitude
Top Speed120 km/h hover-mode
EM SignatureExtremely low—can run black in sensor-jammed zones
SensorsBio-scan deflector, terrain-following radar, cloaked passive sensors
Rear Mount OptionSensor package / surveillance drone cradle
Use CaseCovert insertions, environmental hazard zones (lava, radiation, ice floes)
NotesFragile under fire; no physical traction = vulnerable to tractor beams. Must be assembled on-site due to power core risk.
