Bewr
Bewrs (pronounced BOO-ers) are small, furry, bear like creatures with a surly disposition. They are all exact genetic duplicates of each other and thus are all male and look exactly the same unless they take steps to differentiate themselves, such as dyeing their fur (which many of them do).
Experience is the only thing that truly sets one Bewr apart from his peers. And while some seek out new experiences and develop radically different personalities, most do not and remain the irritable, drinking, smoking, foul mouthed creature they were based on.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Bewrs reproduce through a process called Quantum Duplication. What this means is that at any random moment a new Bewr (called "Dupes") could pop into existence next to a pre-existing one. The new Bewr always shows up naked, with all his predecessors memories, and a brand new body. (I.E. Free of scars, wounds, tattoos, ect.)
Since this happens at random most Bewrs view this as a huge annoyance, although some will try to help their duplicates get on their feet if they can. Others, such as Bewr mercs, view this as a very dangerous proposition since the dupe has a fresh body and memories of owning everything his predecessor owns. Many Bewr mercs make it a practice to gun down any dupes that pop into existence during any kind of mission without hesitation. They view it as self preservation and at worst they figure people can only accuse them of suicide.

Naming Traditions
Since they are all quantum duplicates of Bewr the Ursakin, Bewr names tend to be descriptive, if unimaginative. I.E. Scar, Scarface, Lefty, Righty, Blue, Red, ect, ect.
Although it is generally agreed upon that if a duplicate kills his predecessor, he gets to claim that identity.
History
Bewrs are a strange case of preservation of a species at any cost.
Centuries ago a race of small furry mammals called Ursakins were on the verge of extinction. A genetic anomaly had made all the males of their species infertile. The Ursakin governments greenlit a variety of programs to combat extinction.
One program led by a fringe scientist was Quantum Duplication. Ideally, this process would pull a fertile version of any male Ursakin put through it. As extinction crept closer and Ursakin resources dwindled, the government began testing on prisoners.
One of the prisoners, a surly mercenary named Bewr, duplicated an exact genetic copy of himself within days of being experimented on. But it wasn't enough. The duplicate was still infertile. In the final months of their species existence Bewr and his duplicate (called Bewr2) were released. They went their separate ways, to opposite ends of Outlaw Space.
Then, slowly, as the Ursakins died out, people began to talk about their mysterious comeback! People were seeing more and Ursakins were being spotted all over Outlaw Space. And they all had the same name.
Bewr.
