From March 20 to the 25 there was a wave of extreme violence along the Yucatan Peninsula, particularly in Cancun, Chetumal and Playa del Carmen; it is believed the chaos came from a power struggle between rival gangs.   March the 25 marked the deadliest day of the year so far for Mexico, when over 120 people were murdered in the state of Quintana Roo.
