Dataspheres

Description

These small, crystalline spheres were constructed during the era of The Saikar Empire as a method of high volume data storage. Their perfectly smooth exterior and clear, glass-like appearance are suggest a fragility that is misleading.

When placed in a small, three pronged cradle with a laser reader at its center, the Datasphere's data can be read and projected above the device in a holographic image, and data can be written on them in the same way.

History

The original writers of data were large a bulky, involving large funnel-like devices like a phonograph to capture audio and large area scanners to capture images. The more recent renditions, before The Fall of Saikar, were much more compact, with microphone and microcamera arrays. Datastreams could also be copied over directly from sphere to sphere, or inputted through a keyboard system.
