Thaumatar

Thaumatars are mages who have learned from experience rather than academia, gaining knowledge of practical skills over time. While magic-oriented, thaumatars defer to their experience… and sometimes experience dictates that you just have to cut a bitch.

The different possible paths of a thaumatar are highly diverse. Spellslingers combine sword and sorcery in their lifestyle, while Sages take a more ascetic approach to psionics. Wayfarers are less combat-centric, focused on survival and exploration.

Sage

Path Skill: Insight

Sages are those who have turned their sight inside themselves, devoted to understanding their own being and, through themselves, other people. They are skilled at divining the true intentions of people, both with magic and by reading nonverbal subtleties in others.

Vibe Check

Without needing to roll Insight, your acute interpersonal perception allows you to pick up on the general attitude of a person (e.g. chaotic, mellow, kindly, bastardous, etc.)

Synchronicity

You are able to anticipate others' actions, and can act in harmony with them. Once per combat, you may break initiative order to aid another combatant however you wish.

Spellslinger

Path Skill: Athletics

Spellslingers are fighters who weave magic use into their combat, often in innovative and unique ways, whether in defense or offense. Their experience has led them to rely more or less equally on magical and physical capabilities, often in odd combinations.

Spellblade

You are adept at using your weapons as a conduit for your magic. When you make a physical attack, you may do additional magic damage of your type choice, and the usual SP cost of the attack is divided evenly between SP and MP.

Spellshield

You are adept at using your armor as a conduit for your magic. When hit with a physical attack in combat, you may expend 1 MP to reduce the damage by half. When hit with magic in combat, you may expend 3 MP to nullify the damage.

Wayfarer

Path Skill: Survival

Wayfarers are those consumed by a restless spirit. Some wayfarers wander the earth and sea, living off the land and their ingenuity. Others take their globetrotting to the skies, employing equal measures of vestibular prowess and technomagical aptitude to get by.

Traveler

You travel by way of technology, whether seaship, skyship, or caravan, and tend to bounce around the complex network of established transit routes. You have proficiency in Tech, and advantage on Survival rolls concerning urban areas.

Outbacker

You travel the ol’ fashioned way, roughing it out in the wilds in the name of discovery. You forge new paths as you go, seeking the secrets of the world. You have proficiency in Nature, and advantage on Survival rolls concerning rural areas.
