Yamato Spirit

Yamato is the spirit of the long-dead astral dragon Yamato whose carcass was used to create The Yamato. The dragon's spirit was bound to her own remains and then those remains were used to create the ship, so the spirit is now bound to the ship and is dedicated to the ship's mission to find a way to save the Hurikami Culture people.

Yamato's primary relationships are with Admiral Akita and the high priest.

Yamato’s History: The Last Guardian of Iscandar

Before his death, Yamato was one of the last great astral dragons sworn to protect Iscandar, the lost homeworld of his kind. He was a sage and warrior, deeply devoted to preserving the arcane secrets of his people. During the Neogi’s first incursions into the Astral Sea, Yamato and his kin fought to repel them, but the war was brutal. Many astral dragons fell, and Iscandar itself was lost to time.

Yamato perished in one final, cataclysmic battle—his massive form becoming a drifting husk in the void. Whether he died in battle, sacrificing himself to shield something or someone important, or was betrayed remains a mystery. His spirit lingered in the Astral Sea, yearning for his people’s return, until the Hurikami dwarves found his remains and wove his essence into their desperate gambit to escape annihilation.

Personality: The Spirit of a Dead Titan

Yamato is a being of contradictions—immense wisdom tempered by sorrow, pride softened by regret. He does not speak often, but when he does, his words carry weight, as though each syllable has been considered across centuries

.

Mentor and Strategist: Yamato provides guidance, though his perspective is vast and sometimes difficult for mortals to grasp. He views time differently and often speaks in riddles or layered metaphors, which frustrates some crew members.

Proud but Humbled: Once a mighty warrior, Yamato still carries the pride of his lineage. He respects warriors and those who act with honor but can be impatient with those who hesitate in the face of duty. However, his own failure to save Iscandar has humbled him, making him more willing to listen and learn from the living.

Guardian of Knowledge: He remembers fragments of Iscandar’s history, but much is clouded, either by the passage of time or by a deliberate force keeping it hidden. He shares what he can but sometimes withholds information until he believes the crew is ready to hear it.

Occasionally Bitter: Though he has accepted his role within the ship, there are moments when Yamato mourns his lost physical form. He occasionally resents the dwarves for binding him, even though he ultimately understands their need.
